MAJORS, B.S. Business
Accounting Focuses upon interpreting information that investors, creditors, managers and regulators need to make decisions. You could become a managerial accountant, an auditor, a financial planner/consultant, a management consultant or a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
Business Economics Provides flexibility for many careers and teaches you how to think concisely and analytically about costs and benefits, private enterprise, and the capitalistic system. You could become an economic forecaster, a banker, a stockbroker, a labor or marketing analyst, a lobbyist, or a regional development specialist.
Two options are offered for this major: General option which upper division elective credits concentrate on economics courses and the Financial option which upper division elective credits are finance related.
Finance Focuses upon securities, international finance, currency trading, financial services, corporate finance, estate planning, and banking. You could become a securities analyst, a credit, portfolio or pension fund manager, an insurance/risk manager, or evolve into a Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
Management and Human Resources Prepares you for opportunities in the areas of management and personnel administration. The management emphasis teaches you to operate a business while the human resources management emphasis teaches you to recruit, hire, train, comply with employment laws, and change employee attitudes to develop more effective employees and organizations. You could manage your own or someone else's company or become a general manager, corporate trainer, HR planner/administrator, or an industrial relations specialist.
Information Systems Links the world of computers with the world of business. It focuses upon using information technology in solving business problems, networking, and developing ecommerce and telecommunications. You could manage your own or someone else's company or become a general or personnel manager, corporate trainer, HR planner/administrator, or an industrial relations specialist.
Marketing Allows you to use your creative talents and analytical skills in strategic planning, marketing research, customer service, geographical or pyshological marketing, and new customer development both regionally and internationally. You could become a retail/industrial buyer, a product manager, an international sales representative, or a public relations manager.
Marketing, Professional Golf Management
The University of Idaho's Professional Golf Management (PGM) program, a five year college curriculum for aspiring PGA Professionals, is a structured educational program endorsed by the PGA of America. U of I has the only PGA-accredited golf management program in the Northwest and is one of only 17 in the nation. Our intent is to prepare students for a successful career in the golf industry through extensive classroom studies, internship experience, and player development.
Production/Operations Management
Teaches you to design processes that ensure the timely delivery of high quality products; to understand and manage the manufacturing of products; and to coordinate teams and tackle challenging problems on a regular basis. You could be in the middle of the action as a production supervisor, process design analyst, quality control specialist, a production planner, or a plant manager who oversees the operation of an entire plant. Accounting The basic curriculum consists of fundamental accounting courses such as: Principles of Financial and Managerial accounting, Corporate Accounting and Reporting I and Accounting for Business Decisions I and II. In addition, two or three more courses (to earn a total of 18) can be chosen from a variety of accounting electives allowing students to tailor this degree to their individual needs. General Business
Designed for students outside of the College of Business and Economics, covers the primary disciplines in business, provides a background for further graduate work, and complements the student's academic major and future professional career. International Business
Open only to the College of Business and Economics students, complements each of the majors in the college and prepares students to extend their disciplinary mastery to the global economy.
GRADUATE PROGRAMS
Masters of Accountancy The Master of Accountancy degree program has primary emphasis areas or tracks that include auditing and financial accounting, corporate accounting management and controllership, government and not-for-profit fiscal management, international accounting, accounting information systems analysis and design, and taxation. Other emphasis areas or tracks are permitted, subject to approval by the departmental graduate committee.
Executive MBA The University of Idaho Executive MBA Program is designed specifically for working managers and professionals on an executive career track. The class schedule is formatted to allow students to earn their MBA degree in just 22 months without interrupting their careers. The program combines the rigor and depth of a traditional MBA with an integrated curriculum and flexible format of an executive program. The program schedule allows for maximum flexibility and work-family balance. The program is divided into four semesters with a one-week summer residence each year.
